Software and Applications
Software is now at the heart of research in scientific computing. It enables the development of new numerical methods, the performance of large-scale simulations, and the addressing of scientific challenges in a variety of fields such as physics, biology, mathematics, and artificial intelligence. However, its development, dissemination, and promotion remain major challenges for the community.
The GDR C4P’s Software and Applications Mission aims to bring together stakeholders in this ecosystem, whether they develop software libraries, computational environments, or scientific applications. It seeks to strengthen collaboration among communities, promote best practices in software development, and raise awareness of the software produced within laboratories.
Among its initiatives, the mission plans to catalog the software and applications developed by the community, thereby contributing to their visibility through catalogs and outreach efforts, and to encourage the sharing of experiences regarding development methods and tools (version control, continuous integration, testing, documentation, governance, etc.).
Organizing events (theme days, tutorials, demonstrations, and experience-sharing sessions) and fostering synergies with national initiatives, such as the Calcul network, help improve collaboration between those who develop the code and those who use it.
It is also important to promote more open and reproducible research by raising awareness of issues related to licensing, open source, project governance, and the recognition of software as a scientific outcome in its own right.
Whether you are a scientific software developer or a user of computational applications, this initiative is open to anyone wishing to share their experiences and contribute to the development of a dynamic software community within the GDR C4P.
